BROTHER REMOVED
by Anthony Andre
Douglas
long ago in Africa
Blackman celebrated
his blackness
as bold as shade proudly
standing in sun-light
like the first ripe
fruit of a sacred Mango-tree
announcing his presence
to all the land
yet concealing him
from predators in the night
then his gratitude
knew no bounds
blessed with such
wonderful skin
willingly he gave
each years
first
crops of harvest
accumilating wisdom,
virtue and spiritual
growth
he learned to love
and respect the land
from it came all that
he would need
as he gave back whole-heartedly
but this brother removed
shipped across massive
waters
stripped of his name
watered down,
his sable diluted
in this land of freedom
each road leads him
back to slavery
where among strange
plants and trees
detestible distinctions
infectiously strangles
his spirit like litters
of Hitler spawn
now he finds Africa
to be his true need
his single delicate
bond shackled to his feet
as visions of his
ancestors
walk the Motherland
of his mind
and like his fathers
father before
he yearns to go back
home
back to celebrate
blackness
beyond the unwavering
vastness
of his removal
